Our plot today concerns Heihachi, having enjoyed 15+ years of relative peace, discovering the existence of a sentient Mesoamerican superweapon of possibly alien origin. Taking place roughly 19 years after the events of Tekken 2, less than half the playable cast of the prior two games returned to the roster, now joined by a group of newcomers who would become series mainstays. Released very late in 1996 according to trademark documents, Tekken 3 was an evolution for its fledgling series. Next time, we'll go over the series' time skip-enabled soft reboot, where a largely new cast of characters contend with a third tournament, aliens, and killer cyborgs. Not a bad update for this devil in disguise.Īnd so ends the rundown of Tekken 2's returning characters. OG Devil Kazuya looks a little goofy, Devil Kazuya 2.0 looks actually scary. Devil serves as the true final boss for most characters in Tekken 2, and he's now a fully purple (and naked) demon with a red chest scar and prominent horns. Unfortunately for him, the curse lives up to its name and has gradually begun to corrupt Kazuya's soul as he continues committing atrocities as the head of the Zaibatsu. As you could imagine, Kazuya wasn't having any of that. Kazuya has inherited the Devil Gene, a hereditary curse from his mother's side of the family whose power Heihachi either wants to control or destroy. What started as a simple alt became a full-fledged character and signifier of the series tone come the sequel. Kazuya had no clothes but black boots, gloves, and underwear. It was Kazuya as a demon that for all intents and purposes is Devilman from the manga of the same name. All things considered, this is possibly the first (and last) relatively normal Yoshimitsu default, and I'm saying that with the acknowledgement that my man's looking like an Eastern version of Siegfried from Soul Edge.ĭevil Kazuya, or "Devil" as he's simply known at this point, was a mere alternate costume for the younger Mishima added to the PS1 port of the first game. Starting in this game, Yoshi also sports a prosthetic arm due to plot reasons. It should be noted that this is one of the few designs to actually give us a peek at Yoshi's natural brown hair, lips, and even ( gasp!) a bit of his head. Yoshi here looks like a rōnin who's lost his way, albeit one who hasn't lost his sense of honor. I've mused that the Yoshimitsus of Soulcalibur more closely resemble the average westerner's idea of a samurai as opposed to a ninja, and that observation largely applies to their contemporary period counterpart. ![]() His white and red armor and wig are retired for a suit of silver upper armor, green pants, and a wide-brimmed hat over a new demon mask. Unlike Paul, he changes designs every numbered game. Yoshimitsu is the head of the Manji Clan of ninja, a noble group of Robin Hood types who steal from the corrupt and powerful.
